Our Program at BALL HOGG ACADEMY
BallHogg Academy Vision
At BallHogg Academy our main goal is to create a culture of success in the St. Louis/Metro East area. Most programs are designed to give kids the tools to become a better basketball player, but many don’t teach them how to apply these tools. This is where we differ. By encouraging kids to fail & teaching them to compartmentalize their efforts during training sessions, we influence kids to be conscious of their efforts in every drill and actually learn how to form good habits. Once we teach them how to work, our players will have the basics to overcome any challenges they may face in their pursuit of becoming a better basketball player. We expect our players to leave our Academy head and shoulders above their peers & where they were before they joined BallHogg Academy.
BallHogg Academy Process
The motivation behind our program was to establish the area’s first academy for basketball players. We believe that in order to successfully develop as player, training needs to be approached like school. That is why we’ve divided our program into three main categories: group skill sessions, team practices, and live competition. As trainers, we feel that it is our responsibility to offer all three, as it is never enough to just have one aspect of training.
Like our overall program, the group skill sessions are broken down into 3 main groups: the Core, Second Nature, & Separation groups. These groups are the foundation of our training. Here we will be able to assess the skill levels of each player & target common weaknesses that every basketball player encounters.
Team practices are arranged to build upon the work we do in the group skill sessions. Each practice is created to teach kids how to translate the individual skills they develop into a team setting. We want our kids to understand how each position works together to create a common goal of success, whether that be executing a play correctly or winning a championship.
Although skill sessions and team practices are integral parts of developing, they provide little gauge on the overall development of a player.. We encourage our players to use the individual and team skills they learn in live competition settings. These opportunities will be provided through monthly tournaments & “3 vs 3” sessions.
